Devon and Dartmoor

Finch ForgeBy Noah and Sam- Our first adventure by car has begun. Tonight we are camping in a field with a lovely view of Dartmoor. Having a carboot full of food is definitely an advantage of travelling in a car, opposed to with a backpack, especially after our busy day. Our first stop was the interesting Finch Forge, the last working water powered forge. We were lucky enough to join a tour and learn how it all worked. The power the water wheels generated was awesome. We saw one machine flatten a piece of metal to the width of a spade in a matter of seconds and that was after they had slowed the hammer down for demonstration purposes. It makes me wonder why we don’t use water to harness energy now-a-days. Our next stop is the deepest gorge in the south-west, Lydford Gorge.
