North and Mid-Wales

In 2009 we ignored all warnings of a wash-out summer and bought two flexi-rover train/bus tickets to backpack around North and Mid-Wales. At just £25 for the child ticket and £50 for the adult ticket it was easy to work to my budget of £250 for a week’s holiday. Costs were kept down by camping and staying in hostels but we still had money for ice-creams, visits to castles and souvenirs.

We recommend:

  • The Miner’s Path up Snowdon (as much as you can manage!)
  • The Great Orme Tram ride at Llandudno
  • Betws-Y-Coed’s riverside walk
  • Blaneu-Festioniog narrow-gauge railway (price included in train/bus ticket)
